More than 24 million people in the US, over the age of 40, have begun to develop cataracts.

Who better to survey about the benefits of cataract surgery, than people who’ve had cataract surgery? Alcon surveyed approximately 1,300 of these people, ages 60 and over. Here are some eye-opening statistics they learned.

Of the people surveyed:

  • 64% felt that cataracts impacted their day to day lives, prior to surgery; activities such as driving, work, and seeing the colors on TV and in movies.
  • 65% were surprised by how bright and vivid colors appeared, after surgery.
  • 60% agree that the clarity of their eyesight, following surgery, increased their sense of independence.
  • 93% stated that they would recommend the procedure to a friend or relative who was on the fence or nervous about cataract surgery

Since cataracts progress over time, it’s important to have your eyes examined regularly. Today’s the day to educate yourself on cataract symptoms and cataract treatment options, then schedule an appointment at The Rochester Eye & Laser Center today!
