Have you seen the ads for LASIK as low as $299 per eye? Were you surprised? Yes, so were we. When you look at LASIK for that price, are you sure you trust who and what you will get? Is it an experienced Ophthalmologist doing the LASIK? Is the laser and measurement equipment state-of-the art? Is the staff trained and experienced with LASIK procedures? You need to know! It's Your Vision and there is no going back!
Here are 5 things to know when considering LASIK:
When you meet your Ophthalmologist during your pre-procedure consultation, have a list of questions ready to ask. How long have they been doing LASIK procedures? What is their track record for achieving 20/20 vision or better? What complications have they run into? How did they alleviate or make the complications better? Have they had LASIK themself?
Does the Ophthalmologist have good information about the procedure on their website? Make sure they go over everything from any pre-procedure activities you may need, such as eye drops or not wearing contacts, to all post-procedure instructions during your LASIK consultation. No surprises! Ask to speak to a patient that has had LASIK recently.
Know how long to expect to be in the doctor's LASIK center the day of surgery. Ask what is appropriate to wear (i.e. comfortable clothing that doesn't need to go over your head, etc.) Ask how long the procedure itself will take. Will you need someone with you to drive you home?
What should you expect immediately after the procedure is done? What do you need to do when you leave the doctors office? When should you return for a post-procedure check-up? What should you expect your eyesight to be the next day?
The most important thing about considering LASIK is trust in your LASIK team to get you clearly better results and trust that the laser center has state-of-the-art technology with proven results. Don't trust your eyes to the cheapest provider.
