Your LASIK Questions Answered

Your LASIK Questions Answered

If you are curious about LASIK and considering the procedure, it’s likely you have a number of questions about it. That’s a good thing. We want our patients to be completely informed and comfortable about their choice, and we are happy to answer any and all questions. Here are a few of the top questions we get about LASIK:

Good_LASIK_Candidaet.pngCan anyone have LASIK performed?

Am I a good candidate?

LASIK is a medical procedure requiring specific medical and physical conditions to be met before it is considered appropriate for anyone. LASIK® may not be right for everyone. About 2% of candidates are not suited for the procedure, and we can make other recommendations to improve vision if that is the case.

The only way to know for sure if you are a good candidate is to have a free LASIK evaluation exam with Dr. Kenneth Lindahl, a leading Rochester Ophthalmologist in refractive surgeries. Age, general health, eye health, and the thickness of the cornea will be evaluated, and if you are a good candidate, a number of other tests will be performed prior to surgery.

Dollar_Sign.jpgIs financing available?

Since LASIK is an elective procedure not covered by insurers, we understand our patients’ concern about costs. We are proud to offer patient financing through CareCredit. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs),and Health Savings Accounts are also accepted at Rochester Eye & Laser Center. We support our patients in getting the best outcomes possible for both their vision, their lifestyle, and their budgets.

20-20.jpgCan I really get 20/20 vision from the procedure?

Yes! In fact, the data from one U.S. clinical trial of 340 individual eyes shows that 91.5% were corrected to 20/20 or better without glasses or contacts, at the time of their 6 month follow-up examination. Does perfect vision sound like a dream come true? We are happy to help make it possible without breaking your bank.

What if I blink or move during the procedure?

Blink.jpgYou might believe that such delicate eye surgery as LASIK must depend on super-human effort on your part to stay still and not blink. You can relax. The lasers used by Rochester Eye & Laser Center use a high-speed eye tracking system with a response time of milliseconds -- much faster than your eye can move. The eye tracker completely neutralizes any eye movements to assure the highest quality treatment and complete patient safety.

Ouch.jpgDoes it hurt?

Not at all! While you may experience a very slight sensation of pressure right after the procedure, you will not feel any pain. The Eximer EX500 Laser delivers personalized laser vision correction and is designed to be painless. The procedure is performed in a matter of minutes, minimizing discomfort, and recovery is rapid. Most patients return to work the day after LASIK, extremely pleased with immediate better vision!

We hope we were able to answer some of your most pressing LASIK Questions! You can read more about these and many others our patients frequently ask on our LASIK FAQ page.  Or, stay tuned next week for the second installment of Top Questions About LASIK!
